2. Installing the Indiglo Dials

NOTE: DO NOT MOVE THE FUEL NEEDLE LOCATION. TRY AND TAKE A CELL PHONE PICTURE PRIOR, IN ORDER TO REMEMBER IN WHAT POSITION THE NEEDLE WAS SHOWING (JUST IN CASE YOU MOVE IT) AS SOME TOYOTA FUEL INDICATORS DOES NOT RESET WHEN THE CAR IS SWITCHED OFF AND MAINTAINS ITS POSITION.

So if you moved it by mistake, you can just position it back to the fuel level it was showing originally

Step 1:

Unclip and remove the clear plastic cover and then proced to do the same to the next black/dark grey plastic cover. You should have 3 pieces like the picture below.

Step 2: Removing the speedo needle.

Because this particular Toyota's reset knob is located in the speedometer plate. the needle for that plate has to be removed in iorder for the new indiglo dial plate to be placed over it. This is the only needle to be removed. All the rest stays in. I will show you how to safely remove and safely put back the needle without affecting the calaberation of the speed reading.

Firstly you will need two spoons as leverage. You may use either 2 table spoons or two tea spoons, whichever has the FLATTEST or LEAST ROUNDED OR CURVED head.

Once you have decided on which set of spoons to use, proceed to carefully place the two spoons underneath the needle as in the following picture.

NOTE: The needle has a black cap that might pop off, but not to worry as this simply clips easily back on again.

Another view of the spoons being positioned beneath the needle. Make sure the spoon tip is properly beneath the needle

Then gently put equal downward pressure on both the spoons until the needle comes off

This is how the clustar should look like now

Step 3: Cutting slits for the indiglo connectors

Now you have to cut 4 slits into the plastic surrounds. The slits are only 10mm deep and wont affect the look of your clustar unit in anyway as it takes place on the bottom layer.

The 4 cut slits are to be made at the following positions:

Before you cut the slits, first unscrew and remove the speedo plate and perspex/plastic layer beneath that to get better access to the first location to be cut

Now cut the first slit in the following position:

Location of first slit above

Cutting the slit about 10mm or 1cm deep

NEXT: Now continue to cut the next slit located at the following location below

location of second slit above

Cutting the second slit above

NEXT: Cutting the third slit

The location of the third slit takes place at a slot position. Refer to photo below

NEXT: Cutting the fourth and final slit

Refer to the photo below for the location of the 4th and last slit to be made

Step 4: Applying the indiglo dials

Remember to wear your rubber gloves in order to avoid finger prints on the indiglo dials.

NOTE: If there are finger prints, it can be removed later with a soft clean cloth though.

Also as was stated earlier, remember the original fuel level that the needle was indicating, so you can move it back if you happen to move the needle location (which is very likely to happen). So try and take a photo with your cellphone for you to refer to later on.

NEXT:
Unscrew the two small screws that are in the fuel dial plate.
Then slide the fuel/petrol gauges through the petrol needle according to the following photo below

ABOVE: sliding the indiglo plate through the needle

Now position and screw in the new indiglo plate and slide the ribbon connector cable through the first slit that was cut earlier as seen above.

Now reposition the fuel needle back to the fuel level it was originally indicating if it has moved (refer to the cellphone photo that you took earlier if you are unsure)

NOTE: TIGHTEN THE SCREWS FIRMLY BUT NOT TIGHTLY. YOU DO NOT WANT TO PIERCE THROUGH OR DAMGE YOUR NEW DIALS!

NEXT: proceed to put back your original speedo dial plate by first putting back the perspex plate and then the original dial plate.

Also it is important to remember that there is a stopper pin located on both the speedo and rev dial plates that are very fragile. So be gentle and make sure you position the new plates carefully over those to fragile stopper pins

Now continue to install the indiglo speedo dial plate as follows:

positioning the speedo dial and sliding the connecting cable through the second slit that was cut

(remember to look out for the stopper pin on that dial when placing over the indiglo dial plate)

Now screw the indiglo speedo plate in position

NEXT: Sliding over the rev counter indiglo dial plate

Slide this dial over using the method as the petrol gauges installed earlier, but postion the needle upwards in order get over the stopper needle on that dial aswell.

NOTE: DO NOT BEND THE INDIGLO DIAL PLATES

Refer to the following TWO photo's below

ABOVE: Positioning the needle upwards and then sliding the new dial through the rev counter needle

ABOVE: remembering to CAREFULLY & GENTLY position the stopper needle through the indiglo dial plate. Once in position proceed to slide the Ribbon connector through the top third slit that was cut (the slot) and then screw back the indiglo dial in position

the slot for the indiglo rev counter connector to be slid in (the third slit cut earlier) located at the top.
Now screw back the indiglo rev dial plate in position

NEXT: Sliding over the heat gauges

Pretty much the same technique as the fuel gauge installation. Refer to the photo's below

ABOVE: sliding it through the needle at a slight angle

ABOVE: rotating the indiglo heat dial into position

Now slide the Indiglo heat gauge connector through the last cut slit that was cut earlier.
Refer to the photo below:

Now screw the last indiglo dial plate into position. The heat needle should automatically move back down, but if it didnt then proceed to reposition it to point to the lowest level which indicates "cold"

NOTE: DO NOT PUT THE SPEEDO NEEDLE IN YET, THAT WE WILL PUT IN LATER ON AND I WILL SHOW YOU HOW

Next: Clip the first dark grey / black plastic layer back over the clustar unit.
DO NOT
clip back the clear plastic cover as yet.

Your clusar unit should look like this now:

Now connect your four male connectors to the four female connectors.
After you have done this, use the insulation tape to make a secure connection which will prevent it from coming loose and loosing connection.

ABOVE: Dimmer switch with four female plugs and a positive (red) and negative (black) wire

ABOVE: close up of one of the connectors taped up tightly and securely with insulation tape

Next: now we ready to put the clustar back in the dash unit, but you still need to connect the positive and negative wires to your cars light switch in order to be activated by the cars switch when turned on.
